Athens: Man dies in fiery crash this morning

A single-car wreck this morning on Decatur Pike at Interstate 75 has claimed the life of a man in Athens, Tenn., according to officials.

Athens Police Department dispatcher Dana Mashburn said they received a call shortly after 5:30 a.m. about a car that hit a bridge at Highway 30 and Interstate 75.

She said the vehicle caught fire and the unidentified man died at the scene.

Emergency crews were still on the scene at 6:45 a.m. and she said it would be some time before the accident site would be cleaned up.
