Hamilton County: Jim Hammond sworn in as new sheriff

Jim Hammond officially became Hamilton County sheriff this morning at 9:40 when he took the oath of office.

The County Commission chambers were packed with supporters who gave the new sheriff two standing oavations.

Several commissioners joked that today’s swearing in would be the height of Mr. Hammond’s popularity within the county.

Mr. Hammond was elected after the resignation of former Sheriff Billy Long who pleaded guilty May 5, to 27 of 28 charges against him, including extortion, money laundering, gun and drug charges. to federal charges.
