Chattanooga Lookouts win 12-4 with big eighth inning

PEARL, Miss. — The Chattanooga Lookouts scored seven runs in the eighth inning and beat the Mississippi Braves 12-4 in Southern League baseball Saturday night.

The Lookouts (9-9) returned to .500 for just the second time in the second half of the season. They took a 5-4 lead when Craig Tatum’s bases-loaded sacrifice fly to right scored Sean Henry, and Tonys Gutierrez and Michael DeJesus followed with RBI singles to right. Drew Anderson’s two-run double made it 9-4, and Eric Eymann’s two-run homer capped the surge.

Mississippi took a 3-1 lead in the first inning on Jeff Francoeur’s RBI single to center and Van Pope’s two-run single to right, but Chattanooga tied it in the second on solo homers by Chris Valaika and Tatum.

Ben Jukich (7-3, 2.96 ERA) is set to be the starting pitcher for Chattanooga in the third game of the series tonight. Deunte Heath (1-2, 4.08) is scheduled for the Braves.
