AN OFFERING OF CHATTANOOGA’S BEST

Were you to enter the office of In the City you would fi nd a wall of corkboard covered in a sea of black and whites, indicating the end of this issue’s photo shoots. Each photographer has left their mark.

As I sit here in the pre-dawn hours the offi ce remains still. The hustle of the day has yet to begin. It’s just the radio and me and I love it. This is the point before all pieces of the magazine come together.

The pre-planning is done, stories have been thoughtfully chosen. The writers have spent hours searching for the right words to bring each profi le to life. Our photographers have sweated out on location, metering every fl eck of light for perfection.

Now, the fruits are hanging lifelessly on a wall, but not for long. Soon life will resume, both in the offi ce and on our pages.

Our June issue is brimming with articles, photos and faces. Look inside for the feature on Darlene Brown, local pioneer in real estate and on page 14 for the article on Bob Bernhardt, conductor and lifeblood of the Chattanooga Symphony and Opera. The CSO celebrates its 75th anniversary and will play at the upcoming Pops on the River.

We are hitting our stride here at In the City. The goal: no stone or story, no photo opportunity or angle will go unexplored. We are here to bring you the best of what this city has to offer.

Read on to fi nd out more about Chattanooga’s upcoming summer fun and festivals. From Riverbend and Riverfront Nights to Hank’s Day at the Chattanooga Zoo there is no shortage of activities. To fi nd out more information on the impending arrival of the nationally televised program Antiques Roadshow look on page 24.

As always, my hope is that we have provided you, the reader with stories that will spark an interest.
